Ok, so it's laden with Freudian crap. But Psycho is still one of the rare Alfred Hitchcock films that touched greatness. The Birds is another, and it's interesting that both are sharp veers away from what was traditional Hitchian fare.
Hitch also went radical in both films. In The Birds, there is no redemption. In Psycho, the ostensible heroine turns out to be a supporting character.
